Mustang trek is one of the most popular treks in Nepal that takes you into the hidden kingdom of Mustang in the Trans Himalayan region of the western part of Nepal bordering with Tibet. Mustang is also known as the desert of Nepal as it is situated in the monsoon shadow region beyond the Dhaulagiri and Annapurna range. In this region, you see the unblemished Tibetan villages. During the Mustang trek which is also known as the Upper Mustang, you get a chance to explore the culture, lifestyle, religion of the Himalayan people which is similar to that of the Tibetan people. the awesome mountain vistas, rare medieval Buddhist arts, unique Himalayan desert, exotic culture of the inhabitants, artistic barren landscapes enchants every trekker who visits this region. The people of this trekking region follow Tibetan Buddhism. In Mustang trek you enjoy the magnificent panoramic scene of Mt. Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, Machhapuchhre, Nilgiri and many more. Another attraction of Mustang trek is the view of the deepest gorge of the world, Kali Gandaki gorge between the Annapurna and the Dhaulagiri.

The challenging mustang trek also known as upper mustang trek was opened for trekking purpose in 1992 AD. To trek in this region, trekkers required the special permit from the government of Nepal and organized with groups. Mustang trek begins with the scenic flight from Pokhara to Jomsom, the trading center of the lower mustang. Then you travel to Kagbeni following the bank of the Kali Gandaki River. Kagbeni is famous for the Saligram. Saligram is the stone in which a picture of Lord Vishnu is inscribed. There you also meet the Hindu and Buddhist pilgrims who are traveling to Muktinath, the holy site of Hindu and Buddhist. Then you head to Lo Monthong, the walled Himalayan city. You revisit the Lo Manthang village as well as centuries-old Buddhist monasteries like Choser Monastery, Namgyal Monastery, and Tiger Monastery. The best seasons to go for Mustang trek are autumn and spring.
